Massachusetts Senate Votes 33-6 to Hand Financial Records to State Auditor

BOSTON — May 28, 2026 — Massachusetts Senate votes 33-6 to provide financial records to the state auditor, ending a year-long standoff. The chamber adopted Senate No. 3104, a resolution offered by Sen. Paul R. Feeney and Sen. Cindy F. Friedman pledging to turn over four categories of records — budgets, audits, balance-forward transactions, and monetary settlement agreements for fiscal years 2021 through 2024 — as defined by a May 7, 2026, Supreme Judicial Court order clarifying the scope of State Auditor Diana DiSaglio's January 2025 request. Minority Leader Bruce E. Tarr and five colleagues voted no, with Tarr arguing the Senate should have sought a formal SJC advisory opinion on the audit's constitutionality rather than acting through a resolution that he said reserved the right to resist future requests. Assistant Minority Leader Kelly A. Dooner, also voting no, said the resolution was posted publicly at 1:48 p.m. the same day it was voted on and insisted a resolution was unnecessary: "Send all the documents." The Senate separately appointed a conference committee on the fiscal year 2027 state budget, naming Sens. Michael J. Rodrigues, Joanne M. Comerford, and Patrick M.
