Massachusetts Senate Fast-Tracks Six Property Tax and Campaign Finance Bills

BOSTON — January 8, 2026 — Massachusetts Senate fast-tracks six property tax and campaign finance bills toward a January 15 floor debate. At a brief January 8 session, Senator Michael J. Rodrigues of Bristol and Plymouth presented a series of orders waiving Senate Rule 7 to place six bills — including measures targeting property tax bill sharks (Senate No. 1933), senior property tax deferral (Senate No. 2713), a means-tested senior exemption (Senate No. 2036), municipal tax relief (Senate No. 1935), campaign finance reporting for ballot question committees (Senate No. 507), and a bill honoring Blue Star Families (Senate No. 2903) — on the calendar for second reading on January 15, 2026, with all amendments due electronically by 3:30 p.m. on January 12. Senator Kelly A. Dooner moved suspension of the rules for each order, all adopted without objection. The Senate also sent two bills to the Governor: an act amending the Malden city charter and a sick leave bank measure for a state education employee, Jeffrey Yosinthy, the latter following a recorded emergency preamble vote of two in the affirmative and none opposed.
