Massachusetts Senate Engrosses Provincetown and Greenfield Charter Bills in Brief Session

BOSTON — January 12, 2026 — The Massachusetts Senate passed charter amendments for Provincetown and Greenfield and enacted two local bills in a brief formal session January 12. Sen. Joanne M. Comerford presented resolutions honoring Russell "Russ" Carrier for 44 years of service to the Forbes Library, adopted unanimously. House No. 4175 amending the Provincetown charter and House No. 4379 amending the Greenfield charter both passed to be engrossed; House No. 4031 raising the age limit for retired police officers serving as special officers in Weston and House No. 4401 dissolving a special fund in Athol passed to final enactment and were sent to the Governor. Sen. Dylan A. Fernandes secured an extension through January 23 for the Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries to report on Senate Document 58, the oyster shell recycling conservation bill. The Senate adjourned in memory of Manuel B. Barros of Cabo Verde, described on the floor as "a God-fearing man of integrity, hardworking, devoted to family."
