Massachusetts House Passes Police Age Waivers and Sick Leave Bank in Brief Session

BOSTON — January 27, 2026 — The Massachusetts House cleared five police age-waiver bills and a state employee sick leave bank in a nine-minute formal session January 27. The chamber advanced House Nos. 4389, 4391, 4254, 4442, and 4862, granting maximum-age-requirement waivers for officers Angelo L. Rivera, Alex J. Rodriguez, and Rodney Alcindor with the Boston Police Department, Anthony Morales for a Haverhill Civil Service exam, and Jennifer O. Brown with the Town of Monterey. Representative Thomas P. Walsh of Peabody successfully amended House No. 4888, establishing a sick leave bank for Department of Children and Families employee Marnie Jean Goldstein, to insert an emergency preamble making the bill effective upon signing. The House also extended reporting deadlines for the committees on Labor and Workforce Development (to March 18) and Revenue (to March 6), and suspended Joint Rule 12 on a petition by Representative Mindy Domb relative to consumer tariff disclosures. Governor Maura Healey's message recommending legislation on municipal road and bridge financing was referred to the Committee on Transportation. The House adjourned in memory of former member Robert S. Hargraves of Groton, who served from 1995 to 2010.
