Massachusetts House Engrosses Three Boston Police Age-Waiver Bills in Brief Session

BOSTON — January 23, 2026 — The Massachusetts House passed six bills by voice vote and adjourned in memory of former Quincy Mayor James A. Sheets at a brief informal session January 23. Speaker Ronald Mariano, joined by Representative Tackey Chan, both of Quincy, moved the special adjournment honoring Sheets, who served in the House from 1975 to 1978 and as mayor from 1990 to 2001. Representative Donald H. Wong of Saugus moved suspension of Rule 7A to bring two bills to the floor: Senate Bill 2895 regulating a conservation restriction amendment in Hanson, and House Bill 4962 establishing a sick leave bank for Department of Correction employee Sally DeRosiers. The House also enacted House Bill 4663, granting Milford's Select Board authority to appoint a highway surveyor, and engrossed three separate bills — House Bills 4092, 4142, and 4246 — directing the Boston Police Department to waive its maximum age requirement for officer candidates Chris Garilopoulos, Jason De Leon, and Giselle Mello, respectively.
