Massachusetts House Passes Local Police Age, Sick Leave Bills in Brief Session

BOSTON — June 22, 2026 — Massachusetts House advances seven local government bills in a nine-minute informal session. The House, presided over by Speaker Ronald Mariano of Quincy, passed engrossed bills to final enactment authorizing North Adams to use retired police officers for paid detail assignments (House 4141) and setting a police appointment age cap in Worcester (House 3929), while sending three additional measures to engrossment: sick leave bank bills for named Trial Court employee Shannon Manning (Senate 2908) and Worcester County Sheriff's Office employee Stephanie Rivera (Senate 3031), a Haverhill firefighter and police hiring age bill (House 4443), and a Westbrook Field land transfer bill (House 5379). Representative Donald H. Wong managed the procedural suspensions throughout. The House also adopted a resolution by Representatives Michelle L. Badger and Kathleen R. LaNatra commending Plymouth on its 250th Declaration of Independence commemoration, and referred two gubernatorial messages — one on bond terms, one on a Dudley firefighter retirement age exemption for George Petrinos — to the appropriate committees before adjourning to Wednesday at 11 a.m.
