Massachusetts House Approves $4.58 Billion Transportation Bond Bill, 155-0
BOSTON — April 15, 2026 — The Massachusetts House passed a $4.58 billion transportation bond bill 155-0 and swore in a new member Wednesday. House 5375, the annual Chapter 90 roads and bridges financing bill, authorizes $3.8 billion in reauthorized programs from a 2022 bond bill, a one-year $300 million Chapter 90 municipal aid appropriation, and $1.1 billion in new funding including $200 million for MBTA electric locomotives and $500 million for the Lifecycle Asset Management Program targeting the commonwealth's worst roads and bridges. Representative Cusack of Westwood, who managed the bill, said "transportation is a main driver of our economy, our workforce mobility, and our quality of life." The $300 million Chapter 90 portion continues splitting funds between the standard formula and a $100 million road-mileage-weighted supplement benefiting rural towns. Governor Maura Healey administered the oath of office to Andrew Tarr of Gloucester, who won a March 31 special election to fill the 5th Essex District seat left vacant by the late Ann-Margaret Ferrante.
