Massachusetts Senate Sets July 1 Floor Date for Major Energy Affordability Bill

BOSTON — June 23, 2026 — The Massachusetts Senate set a compressed schedule Monday for a sweeping energy affordability and clean power bill while clearing a stack of local measures. Acting on an order presented by Senator Peter J. Durant of Worcester and Hampshire, the chamber directed the Committee on Ways and Means to report House Bill 5175 with a new text — Senate Document 3143 — by June 24, with all amendments due electronically by 4 p.m. June 26 and floor consideration beginning July 1. The Senate also voted to non-concur with a House amendment to the community resilience bill, Senate 3064, and appointed Senators Julian Cyr, Rebecca L. Rausch, and Durant to a committee of conference. Senator Cynthia Stone Creem secured passage of a bill substituting new language to remove the term "hearing impaired" from the general laws, now designated Senate 3142, and resolutions from Senators Sal N. DiDomenico and Dylan A. Fernandes — honoring a retiring MassDOT official and Plymouth's 250th anniversary commemoration, respectively — were adopted unanimously.
