Massachusetts Senate Passes Cambridge Parking Bill, Advances Six Local Measures

BOSTON — July 6, 2026 — The Massachusetts Senate cleared a Cambridge parking enforcement bill and five other local measures in a brief Sunday session, adjourning in minutes to reconvene Thursday, July 10. House Bill 4231, an act relative to parking enforcement in Cambridge, passed to be enacted on a voice vote and was sent to the Governor. The Senate also passed to be engrossed an age-waiver bill allowing William Hillary to sit for the Arlington firefighter Civil Service exam despite exceeding the maximum age, along with additional liquor license bills for Salem and Bridgewater. Two House-passed measures — one releasing Commonwealth land use restrictions in Revere and one authorizing a Norwood eminent domain taking by the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance — were ordered to a third reading after Senator Patrick M. O'Connor successfully moved to suspend the rules on both. All seven actions were approved unanimously without debate.
