Massachusetts Senate Engrosses Six Local Bills, Sends Campaign Finance Measure to Conference

LEGISLATURE — July 20, 2026 — Massachusetts Senate advances six local bills and sends campaign finance measure to conference in brief Monday session. The Senate, presided over by Senate President Karen E. Spilka, engrossed bills on civil service exemptions for Leominster police officers (House No. 4702), Watertown property tax classifications for fiscal year 2027 (House No. 5569), and Belmont liquor license seating rules (House No. 5344), among others, all on unanimous voice votes. Senator Kelly A. Dooner moved that the Senate non-concur in a House amendment to Senate No. 2916, a campaign finance reporting bill, sending it to a conference committee that will include Senators Sal N. DiDomenico, Jacob R. Oliveira, and Ryan C. Fattman. Two bills — a South Boston park dedication and an authorization for the Dalton Fire District to retain an interim employee — cleared final passage and were sent to the Governor. The Senate adjourned to meet again Wednesday, July 22, at 1 p.m.
