Massachusetts Senate Engrosses Five Bills, Enacts Three in Sunday Session

BOSTON — July 13, 2026 — The Massachusetts Senate passed or engrossed seven bills and set two committee deadline extensions in a brief Sunday session July 13. Senate Minority Leader Bruce E. Tarr moved a further amendment to the Blue Star families act, Senate No. 2903 — striking language in lines 11 through 13 — before the chamber concurred with a House amendment and later passed the bill to be enacted; it now heads to the Governor. Two local-option bills also received final enactment: Senate No. 2628, regulating liquor licensing in Bolton, and Senate No. 2895, amending a conservation restriction in Hanson. Senator Sal N. DiDomenico's Mystic River public access and climate resiliency bill, Senate No. 3137, was advanced to third reading but not yet engrossed. Deadline-extension orders presented by Senators Pavel M. Payano and James B. Eldridge gave the Consumer Protection and Revenue committees until July 20, 2026, to report on three pending measures. The Senate adjourned in memory of David Joseph Gilmartin of Dorchester, who died July 8 at age 86, and will reconvene Thursday, July 17, at 11 a.m.
