Massachusetts House Enacts Six Bills, Sets Joint Convention With Governor Healey

BOSTON — January 20, 2026 — Massachusetts House clears six bills and sets joint convention with Governor Healey in a brief informal session. The House, presided over by Speaker Pro Tempore Kate Hogan, first adopted a resolution recognizing the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, then enacted bills establishing Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day (House 3306), regulating Fall River's police chief appointment process (House 4214), amending Seekonk's charter (House 4459), authorizing Billerica to set an age limit for police officer appointments (House 4632), and conveying a Wellesley land parcel (House 4363) — the last requiring a constitutional emergency-preamble vote that passed 9 to 0 across the four divisions. The House also engrossed a Department of Conservation and Recreation Title IX compliance bill and two Boston Police Department age-waiver measures, and concurred with a Senate order to convene a joint session at 6 p.m. on January 22 to receive a communication from Governor Maura T. Healey. Speaker Ronald Mariano of Quincy moved a special adjournment in memory of Arthur H.
