Massachusetts House Passes Local Bills for Wrentham, Hopkinton, and Medford in Brief Session

BOSTON — The Massachusetts House passed a slate of local and special legislation bills in a brief August 13 session lasting roughly eight minutes. The House enacted House Bill 4269, exempting from taxation real estate owned by the surviving spouse of Wrentham Deputy Chief George C. Labonte, and House Bill 4293, establishing an economic development special revenue account for Hopkinton; both were approved on voice votes.
House Bill 5380, exempting the police chief and deputy police chief positions in Medford from civil service law, passed to be engrossed, also on a voice vote. An emergency preamble for House Bill 1338, allowing fair compensation of credit union directors, was adopted six to zero. Representative Paul J.
Donato of Medford led multiple rules suspensions, while Representative Michael J. Soter of Bellingham moved the final adjournment, sending members home until Monday at 11 a.m.
